Reconciliation Services in the Deanery

Introducing the Apostle Paul

Who was Saint Paul? Why is he important? What is his message for us today?

In honor of the 2,000th anniversary of Paul's birth and the papal declaration of the Year-of-Saint Paul, you are invited to come hear renowned Biblical theologian, author and speaker Sister Eloise Rosenblatt, Ph. D, J. D., & Sister of Mercy, share her insights into this towering figure from our scripture and tradition.


This series of talks begins on Wednesday, November 5th with a look at the Acts of the Apostles and continues on Tuesday, November 11th and Tuesday, November 18th.

Angels, Saints and Souls for Young Adults

Come and learn about Catholic teachings on Angels, Saints, and Souls in preparation for All Saints and All Souls Day.  Fr. Mark Arnzen, of Holy Spirit Church, will be the presenter. The Young Adult Group at St. Joseph's Church is sponsoring this event and invites all neighboring parishes and young adults to join them for this special event.

Elder Abuse Education Project

Adult Protection Services will conduct an education and discussion session on how to recognize and report elder abuse.  All lay leaders and clergy who train ministers that visit the elderly in their homes and residences, along with those who visit them, are invited to come and learn more about this issue.

Seminar on Immigrant Workers

"In Sickness and in Wealth"

"In Sickness and in Wealth:  Do We All Have Equal Access to Health?"  The Peace and Justice Councils of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Congregation Shir Hadash in Los Gatos are co-sponsoring a community forum designed to introduce residents to the health disparities that exist in Silicon Valley and throughout the U.S.  

The event will feature a showing of the PBS documentary "In Sickness and in Wealth" followed by an open-ended discussion.  This activity is one of 30 community dialogues that received a mini-grant from The Health Trust, designed to encourage widespread conversation about the economic and social aspects of health.

"Healing Grief Through Music"

Experience an evening of prayer and reflection through a wide variety of music selections to help with the grief you are experiencing, presented by Fr. Christopher Bennett.  All are welcome to attend this free event, co-sponsored by Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of San Jose and St. Joseph's.

Deanery 5 Fall Meeting: The Spirituality of Aging

All parish staff members in the Deanery are invited to attend our next meeting.

Date: Tuesday, October 7, 2008
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Place: St. Joseph of Cupertino Church (Community Center)
Speaker: Marita Grudzen, co-founder of the Stanford Geriatric Education Center.

The following areas will be among those covered in the presentation:
  • Suggestions for starting parish programs for elderly parishioners
  • Navigating resources for the aging and their family members
  • Understanding the needs of the "sandwich generation"
  • Working in bereavement ministry
Please let your parish Deanery representative know by October 1st if you plan to attend. The reps will also be gathering questions and concerns from staff members to be given to the speaker in preparation for her talk.

Each parish in our deanery has many great programs, events and on-going ministries. Some of them are open to participants from outside the parish, however even neighboring parishes may not be aware of the resources available in the parishes around them.

Here are some on-going parish programs in our Deanery:
  • Young Adult Group - St. Mary's in Los Gatos. For more information, contact camillerig@aol.com
  • Grief Support Group - Queen of Apostles every 1st and 3rd Monday. For more info, call Shirley Ruzzo at 241-1209.
  • Eucharistic Adoration in the newly renovated chapel (next to the parish offices) at Sacred Heart in Saratoga. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Alateen Group - Queen of Apostles on Thursday evenings.
Sacred Heart in Saratoga also has an exciting concert scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2008.
  • The Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Choir will be giving a concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) For tickets ($35 & $40 for reserved, $30 unreserved), please call 370-9030.
